Alaska
Fishing Guide - What Can You Expect to Catch?
Redoubt Lodge is home to some of the most experienced fishing guides in this region of Alaska. First-hand
fishing data is limited as we purchased the lodge in early July
2000 and we didnt operate commercially until 2001. Huge Alaska
King Salmon and 25 lb. Lake Trout are common fishing stories in
this area, but well relate only what we actually know to be
true from our own experience:
Fishing Guide: Kings
The Crescent
River closes to the keeping of these fish on June 30th. We can still
fish, but it's catch and release only.
We are
located across Cook Inlet from the Kenai River, which hosts the
largest Kings in the world. Based upon our experience in 2000, we
think we have a run of the same type. Our two summer workers caught
and released a number of Kings, several of which they thought were
over 70 lbs! 45 lb Kings were caught and released beginning July
14, 2001.
Fishing Guide: Sockeye
(Reds)
Last
year the main run arrived at the lake on July 10th. For about 30
days, angling with fly or spinning tackle was fantastic. Sockeyes
averaged 8-10 lbs.
Fishing Guide: Coho
(Silvers)
The first
Coho reached the lake in early August. Angling only improved all
the way through September. On our few trips, everyone caught some
and experienced anglers could catch 25 or more per day.
Fishing Guide: Lake
Trout and Arctic Char
We practice
catch and release on these species since they are such willing biters.
In certain areas we caught one every few casts. COntact us for further information about this fishing guide.
